OUR STORY…

In 2016, the Buncombe County Veterans Treatment Court (a diversion court for justice-involved veterans) lost all State and County funding. The Program Director of the Buncombe VTC (Kevin Rumley) worked for months without pay, recognizing the value of this therapeutic justice system modality. It was here that the VTC recognized that in order to best support the veteran participants in the VTC and promote program stability, alternative pathways of funding must be identified. This was the catalyst for forming our 501c3: the VTC Foundation. In the years since the VTC has gained permanent County operational support, and the VTC Foundation has grown to support hundreds of the most vulnerable veterans with essential and life-saving services, from culturally congruent mental health/trauma therapies to housing, food, transportation, clothing, and more.
